Hello Everyone,
I am about to undertake the life altering but delightful process of adoption as a single parent. I so look forward to becoming the parent of a child in the near future. As I am just beginning this process I hope I can get a few pointers from people who have walked the same path before. I am planning to use an attorney for a private domestic adoption. I do not have an attorney yet so perhaps someone can answer my question regarding private adoption and homestudies.
I am attending a homestudy orientation in a few weeks given by the state of NJ. My question is can I get a homestudy done by the "state" and use it when I contact an attorney or do you think I will have to have a completely new homestudy done? I was waiting for my homestudy through the state to be done before contacting an attorney but after reading some articles I am wondering if I should just forget the "state" homestudy and go directly to an attorney. What are your thoughts?
Thank you for your time and consideration

Attorneys do not do home studies, a lic. social worker does. If you're adopting through the state, home studies are basicaly free, that's the only way they do your home study is if you adopt through them. If you are adopting privately through an agency, they will do your home study for a fee. This is what I have been told. Good Luck.
