If you adopt from out of PA...do the revocation laws pertain to where the Adoptive parents live or the birthparents?
Can you finalize in the birthparents state if you are wary of PA's revocation?
Is it now 60 days?
I think I read somewhere that it just changed!
Can someonegive me a website that outlines this?
Please?
Thank you!
Depending on the state from which you are adopting, you may be forced to finalize in the state of the bparents (or more specifically, where the baby was actually born). The laws governing revocation are based on where you finalize.
In our case, we adopted from MD and live in PA and finalized in MD because of some weird law in our county regarding custody with an out of state adoption. It was all very confusing and the attornies involved were causing more problems than they were solving. We wound up having to get an agency involved from MD to get around the issue of an out of state private adoption in MD. You really need to check with an attorney/agency with knowlege of the two states involved in order to determine the best place to finalize. In our case, we had to go with MD in order to get custody of our daughter right away. I don't pretend to understand why, but I relied on the experts to put us on the right path.
Hope this helps!
