I am currently a single woman (who is disabled)..I have cerebral palsy and walk with crutches.) who really wants to adopt disabled children from Romania...has any single disabled person been able to do that? Also, what is it like as a single parent? How do you manage the expenses of adopting and caring for the children? My mother keeps saying that I should wait till I marry but I have not found anyone who shares my desire to adopt (something I have known I want to do since I was a child). What agencies have you used? Has anyone ever used Little Miracles international or Journeys of the Heart Adoptions; if so were they any good? Thanks so much for any advice.

I am a single adoptive Mom with 4 kids ages 5-11. My youngest are twins which were placed with me in Feb of this year. The older 2 were infant adoptions.
Expense wise, the 1st adoption was done while I was in the military and was very inexpensive, my most expensive was my 2nd child, mainly with air fare and hotel expenses. My youngest are an instate placement, so I only drove 75 miles to pick them up. I am a nurse-midwife so childcare for me is expensive. My hours vary and I'm on call nights, weekends and holidays. Lucky for me I have had the same childcare provider since my oldest was 3yr.
What's tough is when the kids get sick or as in the case of my number 1 son I get called from school to get him as he has been acting out. He has some emotional issues that his twin fortunately doesn't. All of my familly live out of state, so I have no backup from them. Sometimes the money is tight. I no longer eat lunch out=I brown bag it. We have family outings to McDonald's on Thursdays when the happy meals are cheap, and rent videos rather than go to the theater. Some times i ask myself how crazy am I, but for the most part I am happy with my decision. Like you I wanted a family and so I went for it. You can do it. The first step is the hardest. You'll need lots of family support and prayers. My family has given me both. I also have a very supportive work family as well. Lots of luck.
