Records in Melbourne have been open since 1985. Once your son turned 18 you have been legally entitled to apply to the Dept to have an outreach made directly to him on your behalf.
To do this you will need to apply to
Dept of Human Service
Adoption Information Service

Tel 9616-2822
Please ask them to look up their reunion register as your child might be looking for you too, and if you live OS it would be hard to find you.

Does anyone have advice on the best way a birthfather can go about finding a non-adopted son? (raised by birth-mother) He was born in NZ in '83, but we are pretty sure raised in Aussie. Thanks! Debi
