Hello Group,
My husband and I were leaving to locate our child in Haiti this week, today we were given heartbreaking news that the agency we were using has stopped all adoptions in Haiti. We are at a loss of where to go from here, and we just want to become parents to a little boy or girl who we can love and who needs a home. Are there often AA babies who are born and waiting for adoption, or are most situations pregnant birthmoms looking for couples to adopt her child. We really feel more comfortable knowing that the baby was born and waiting for a family... we haven't felt comfortable writing a Dear Birthmother... thanks for any advice you can send our way...

I know that many have successfully adopted from Haiti using reputable US agencies if you choose to continue that path. We adopted domestically through a private licensed agency. I understand being hesitant about the "presentation" of one's ability and enthusiasm to parent through a letter. I am not sure if you are looking to adopt a child from the state system where parental rights have been terminated or if you are looking at a private adoption. You can stipulate with some agencies that you not be contacted about a child's birth until rights have been terminated and any applicable revocation period has ended. During this time, many agencies place babies in interim care, which is not foster care but generally with other parents who might have adopted through that agency and are volunteering. I know that sometimes mothers do not want to choose the family but rather ask that the agency does so for them. Enclosed is a link to the agency that we used. Best of luck.

I attended an Adoption Expo today and met with an agency that has a Hati program. I'm adopting domestically so I won't be using them so I can't vouch for them. Anyway, here is their link: www.adoptcasi.org
Good luck,
Thank you all for your advice and support. We are waiting to hear from a lawyer who works for another orphanage in Haiti to see if he will take our case, as we are 25 and 29... Haiti makes execptions every day for there rule on parents being 35 and up or married 10 years, but we have to wait and see if they will take us. I hope to know by tomorrow! Are hearts are in Haiti right now, and we will keep trying... thanks again for your help!
