We are just starting our adoption process and are soooo confused USA or international adoption?
The post on Abby's one true gift caught my attention Could any one fill me in on this agency. What all is involved, couple requirements, wait time, costs, children available, agency history.
All I hear is how rare it is to adopt in the United States.
Also I am open to any opinions or suggestions on US or international adoptions?
Thanks

First, I think the statement that it is rare to adopt in the US is not correct. Most all of us that have been in the adoption process for awhile will tell you it requires education more than anything. You have to find the agency / attorney and situation that most fit your needs.
As for Pat---she is a dream. Her agency does not require any money until you are actually matched. You fill out an app and send it to her. She does a phone interview with you...and likes to have a picture of you...She does not require portfolios of adoptive parents...she works too fast for that...and believes that matches are made by the parties talking to one another.
If for some reason your match did not result in adoption of that child, she works with you through adoption. She is a licensed child placing agency...but works as a facilitator. She spends her time matching families. She does not stop caring or being available to you after the match --- even though you are then working with your attorney or whoever to complete the adoption.
We have had some personal experience with Pat...and she is wonderful. There are some people on her I've seen that did not particularly like her contracts for bmothers...but I personally did not understand their concerns. Not to say that they were not valid...I just didn't understand where they were coming from
I know a bmother that has worked with Pat and feels very blessed and had extensive help from Pat prior to being matched. She had talked to 5 other agencies prior to contacting Pat...and received much needed personal attention and extensive help that was an immediate need before they could even concentrate on locating an adoptive family.
Feel free to pm me if you'd like more info. I can give you more personal details if you'd like.
We have adopted from the State of Iowa 4 times, did 2 private adoptions and never found out about Abby's. If we knew there was an agency in Iowa we would have researched it. I still research adoption for others, although I wouldn't rule out another older child for our family this time! It is great to hear there is an agency closer to home. Our last newborn came from PA. She and bmom were wonderful matches. Any other Iowa agencies out there?
Hi Katie:
We just started with Lori and are really pleased with them. We have adopted twice from Russia and twice from US. They are upfront and knowledgeable.
Did you have success first time out with them?
JTR-
We adopted twice internationally and twice in the US. We are on #6 now. I would consider us a source and would be more than happy to speak with you.
