i just wanted to know how things work in the adoption process when the childrens dad is deceased. My husband wants to adopt my two children, but they get a social security check and i put all of it in a savings for them, if my husband adopts them does it cut off their checks. I want to be able to give this money to them one day and say that it is from your dad. If someone would please reply i would greatly appreciate it. thanks

In the state of Oklahoma, if a child whose parent is dead, is adopted the check stops. They will not recieve that money anymore. I know this from experience. Ask any lawyer in the state of Oklahoma and they will tell you that the check will stop. The adoptive parent takes on financial responsibilty for the child. Just like the bfather doesn't have to pay child support anymore in most cases.

this is obviously an old post but...No a child recieving social security death benefits will NOT lose their checks.
