What do social workers look for in a homestudy? What makes a good match? How can you tell whether or not someone will be a good parent from what they write about their own childhoods?
We are waiting and scared with a homestudy out for the first time! Feeling vulnerable. Please help
Wenrl,
It really comes down to your ability to appropriately provide for an adopted child in all ways: emotionally, financially, etc. Social workers aren't looking for perfection, they just want to see that you've got enough going for you that the likelihood is high that you will be successful as a parent. Don't stress too much over it. I know that it is a bit unnerving and very personal, but be confident in what you bring to the table.
It would take someone wiser than I to give a simple answer to what makes a good match. Each situation is different and takes into consideration your needs and the needs of the child. There's something deep and powerful in each match, and you'll get your opportunity.
Enjoy the experience, despite the struggles.
