Hello all. We just went through the home study process and my husband had a few issues in his record that we dealt with (concerning DUI's). We asked her to be up front and honest with her if this would affect our adopting. She said that it will not, but that she needed us to do a few things so that she knows that the issues are resolved. This was not a big deal for us. Anyway, she did say that she will need to address this in the home study which we also understand. But this is the question. Is a home study pass or fail? Do people actually fail a home study or is it WHAT they put in the home study that allows you to adopt or not. And if this is the case, who decides? A different agency is doing the home study than is doing our adoption. The social worker who is doing our home study said that if she does our adoption that she would have to present the problem as my husband is a recovering alcoholic to the birth mother (in a more positive way) to see if that's okay with her. But my agency doesn't do this. They don't tell the info that is in the home study unless the birth mother requests a copy of it. So is it pass/fail? That's my basic question. Please no lectures about alcoholism - my husband has already dealt with this and so have we as a couple. I just need an answer to the pass/fail question. Thanks!!!
