For those of you who entered into the adoption process under the old law - there is hope! My boss, who I will soon be nanny-ing for as well, has just received news that a court date has been set for her daughter. Her first visit was last June. Her court date is February 10 and, if I understand correctly, she will get to pick up her little Bulgarian girl in March. Unfortunately, I do not know what agency she is working with and I keep forgetting to ask. Anyhoo, things are starting to move again so keep the faith!

Congrats on getting that date set! We saw our daughter at the beginning of July, and are currently waiting for a court date too! Thank you so much for the hopeful message. We're starting to go a little crazy.

How very exciting! I'm so glad to hear that things are moving along.
Jean - I keep you in my thoughts. I'd love to hear from you when you bring your little one home. Since my son was in Blagoevgrad with your child. I found another family with a little one from Blagoevgrad. She's been home almost a year. She and my son were there together.
I'd love to share photos.
I think you have my email. Feel free to contact me.
Gloria,
I would be very interested to find out what agency your boss is going through.
We had our visit trip in April and were (finally) approved by the MOJ in December. Now we are stalled once again. The MOJ is not sending our case to the courts because they have not yet gotten our lawyer on their list of accredited facilities.
Apparently, as of Jan. 12th, the MOJ has only accredited 8 Bulgarian agencies (according to the US Embassy web site) and no US agencies. I know of two lawyers in Bulgaria who turned in their accredition paperwork and had their interviews with the MOJ in December, but have not yet recieved their licensing/accreditation. No one knows when the MOJ will get around to updating their accreditation list so they can send all the waiting cases to court.
I told my facilitator about your post and he was most interested to find out the name of the agency your boss is using. Any info you have would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Mur
Okay, she is going through Christian Family Services. And, I thought she had been in under the old law but it seems as though she was one of those who was caught in the middle. She had MOJ approval earlier this fall when things started to get messy. In November we thought we were waiting for a court date but we really needed to get some other agency approval to go back to the MOJ. All in all, I'm more confused now than I was before I talked with my boss. Oh, her child is from (major mispelling because I don't have a book with me) Veden.
This whole process is very confusing. We all need to keep the faith even though it's trying at times.
q's mom, I don't have your email address; send it to me privately. I would love to see pics. I'll forward you a couple of our Molly.

What is the average wait for a court date? We've been waiting since October. I'm hoping to get a call soon, but this is crazy.

Jean -
You may be 'stuck' so to speak while your Bulgarian agency is getting accredidation. Boy, I spelled that wrong. Anyway, I read that there were 8 agencies that were approved and I just heard of 1 more that has been approved.
The Bulgaria Adopt group at Yahoo Groups has a website address for the Embassy in Sofia where you could check who is approved so far, but I don't have the address any longer. And if you don't know the name of the Bulgarian agency, it won't help much. But since you already traveled once, you may know the name of the Bulgarian agency.
Try doing a Google search or something for the web address, it might help ease your mind. But it seems like things are beginning to move in the right direction, slowly, but moving.
Our agency said they received the accredation for their Bulgarian Agency late last year. I've been told it's the speed of the courts right now.

Well, the court date has come and passed. Legally, my boss is a mother. When she asked about bringing the child home she was told, "Ummm... April or May." Of course, this did not sit well with her or any of us involved. She worked with her attorney or the agency (i'm not sure which) to speed things up and yesterday she called to tell me that she may be travelling in 2 or 3 weeks! My prayers go out to all of you who have been caught in the law change and those who are just beginning this journey.

YEAH!
As an adoptive mom to a Bulgarian child, I'm so glad to hear another child is coming home to their forever family.
I travelled 11 1/2 weeks after my court date to pick up my son. I picked him up exactly 2 months after the adoption was effective.
That was under the old laws. There was a 2 week waiting period then after the judge signed it for it to become effective. It is only 1 week now.
Best of luck to your boss!
What great news! I'm sure you're all thrilled to be getting ready to welcome the new family member. Keep us posted as to how things are going.
We'll get them all home slowly but surely!
Hi
We had our first visit on June of 2003 and waited what seemed like forever. But now we're got our travel dates! Court date happened 2 weeks ago and the final decree was issued last Friday. We travel the second week in April.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel!
Mike
The little girl is home tonight! My boss left on Saturday to get her and should be home today. I'll get to see them on this coming Saturday. Yay!
Congrats to you Mike!

Congratulations Mike! I can't wait to hear how your second trip goes. The next couple of weeks can't pass fast enough. I pray you have a wonderful trip.
Jean
Congratualtions to everyone who is progressing so well under the old law now!
Has anyone actually gone under the new law with MOJ? My dossier will be arriving there within the next few days (my agency director is actually hand delivering it .... just because he wants to go to Bulgaria!). I am hearing lots of things about the new system and just wondering how it is going to work. The attorney in Bulgaria hasn't been very clear with my agency director or myself about how things are going to work so I was just wondering how it would transpire. She is accredited so I imagine that is half the battle. But with work (I teach at a university) I am trying to plan the first trip over and not sure how long after the dossier arrives I have to wait!
I am very excited about my first trip to Bulgaria. Anxiously awaiting and meeting my little one! Dana
