Hello everyone! I'm so glad I stumbled upon this message board. My name is Sharon, 31, and my husband is Jeff, 32. We have discussed adoption in detail and have decided this is the best route for us to become parents. We're so excited about the entire process, and recently attended an AASK orientation. We are so brand new to the world of adoption and I'm trying to read everything to learn. I've noticed that some of you live in the East Valley, and so do I. I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you who have been through the adoption process through foster care. :)

Have you all heard about the Arizona Association for Foster and Adoptive Parents or the Family Connections Center? Both are newly started and offer support, training resources and connections to foster and adoptive families in Ariziona. I am the Program Committee Chairperson for AZAFAP and the Center Coordinator for FCC and would love to share more info with anyone who is interested.
Save the date...
May is National Foster Care Month. AZAFAP in partnership with local agencies is planning a Blue Ribbon Campaign to tie 8000 blue ribbons (1 for each child in care) around trees at the State Capitol. We are looking for volunteers and supports.

I too am a new member, I have four cousins ages 5-11 who are in state custody and I would like to look into adoption. I have several questions for the authorities, which I will ask, but I'd like to get the stories from people who have been through it. How long does it take? what is the process? do I have to go to classes? should I get a lawyer? Four children could be a financial burden, Does the State help financially to take care of these kids? Is marriage a requirement if your living with someone? Do the children have a say at all where they go? Where do I start?
Can use all the help I can get.
