Hello -- This message is for pros who have dealt with (or know how to deal with) Catholic Family Services...
I am an adoptee through CFS in 1966 -- and I was told through an inside source that I would want to obtain my file. NOT initiate a search, necessarily, but see the file that resides with CFS. Can you tell me how to do this? I know my birthname and some information -- and I am not sure I want to search until I see that file. Any help?

What state was this in? Most state agencies have an "adoption registry" which is not quite what you want. You want to be able to access your file.
Everywhere I have worked in the past, you have to get a court order to open your child welfare records, which means you will have to go through an attorney. My suggestion is to find out who the attorneys are in your area who represent the parties in a child welfare case and hire one of these because they know the ins and outs of the system.
Good luck!
