Just an idea . . .
You may want to check to see if there are any international festival in your area. The university near us has an International Food Festival each year in March. The food, entertainment and freebies are great. Each year we have gotten an international cookbook with both Colombian and Panamanian recipes. Last year was the first year Colombians did a dance routine and it was fantastic. We were able to get our daughter's picture taken with the performers. We were thrilled. In the summer, there is an wonderful International Festival with dancers and vendors in a town north of us.

Ooooooooh, good idea, Jane!!
The Panama Canal Society holds an annual reunion each year in Orlando, Florida. Usually on the 4th of July, but this year it's on a different date. We go every year. Last year I think there were over 5,000 people from all over the world. It's really a big reunion for folks who used to live in the Canal Zone, but there's a lot of Panamanian infuence and flavor.
It's a 5 day fest. If any of you are in or near Orlando, I highly highly recommend stopping in. They have native dancers and a huge vendor area selling Panama stuff. It'd be a nice way to learn more about Panama before ya travel.
If you want more info, lemme know.
