I used it about 12 years ago, and my intermediary was able to locate my birthfather but never could find my birthmother. I especially liked this option because it gives the birthparent the first choice as far as whether he or she wants to make contact with the adoptee. You do have to pay the intermediary's search expenses and the other thing that disappointed me was that when I chose to end the search, she told me all the written info she had collected about me would most likely be destroyed. Also, she said I could never re - open a search once I had closed it.

If you are, become a member of the mailing group. Ellen, who hosts the site, could answer these questions a lot better then I can. I don't think that you lost your money. It maybe that they are very busy. What agency were you adopted through?
