I am looking for my birthfather, John Houlihan from RI. He lived in Providence, RI in 1953 and supposedly was 28. That is where he met my birthmother, Helen F. Pierce. I was born and adopted in MA, BUT my birthfather was from RI!!!!!!!!
I can't find a John Houlihan born in RI that is the right age. However, I do find one in MA. Do you have your non-id? Does it say anything about siblings/ancestry, etc? You also said "supposed to be 28" Do you doubt the age?

I found out that John Houlihan was from MA not RI as my mother never went to RI. My mother told social workers that he was 28, but was he 28 in '53 or '54. If my mother lied about RI would she have lied about his name? I know from my uncle that he was 5'8 and had reddish curly hair. He said he didn't know his name but recognized the description. He said my mother threw him out of the house and my aunt was mad at her because she said he might have married her (my mother). My mother never married.
Anne:)
There were two John Houlihan's in MA in 1930 that were the age your father should be.
One had parents from Ireland: Martin & Anna
and brothers Patrick, Gerald, Bernard, Martin & Edmund ages (in 1930) 14, 8, 3, 2, 3months respectively as well as sisters Margaret 12 and Marie 10. All children born in MA.
The other was the son of William, 39 and Mildred, 34. He had a brother, William 14 and sisters Helen, Katherine, Mary, Margaret, Barbara & Phyllis 17, 15, 12, 10 , 7, 1 1/2. All were born in Massacusetts, but William, Sr.'s parents were born in Ireland.
Try to find any of the brothers or obits on the parents. I can't find a John Houlihan the right age in the SSDI. This either means he is still living, or he died when you were very young - pre-list.

No death record listed for Martin or Edmund. There are listings for two Williams and a John but none appear to have lived in the right area of the country in the 50's.
It looks like it's the one with Martin & Anna because you already have the information of their being deceased. While I find no record of Mildred's death, I believe William died in May, 1969. You should not have known that. So, I think Martin & Anna are the right family. Thus, many brothers to look for. I think also, that if you do find a John to contact, I would ask if his parents are Martin & Anna before I asked if he knew your mother.

Hi
Please excuse me for coming into this thread. But I was wondering Beth where you found your info. I am looking for my bdad, earl Robbins who was supposed to be from RI. He would have been born around 1920. I found one man whom I have the obit for but he would have been too young when I was born.
Any help you can give would be
greatly appreciated. I am at a standstill in my search!

I have two subscriptions: anybirthday.com and locateme.com. I'm heading out right now, but when I return this evening, I'll check it out for you and pm his name & address if I find one.
Hi Snuffle,
Having difficulty with this one. I can't find anyone by the name of Earl Robbins even close to the right age that was living in RI in 1930 or born in RI. I did find one who was born in 1926 who was living in RI in the 50's that died in 2002. I also found several the right age, but with no obvious tie to RI it makes it difficult to know. Do you have any other info that might help to determine which one it may be?
Hi Beth,
Thank you so much for looking!
The only other info. I have is that he was a salesman for a large jewelry company and had the midwest district at the time i came to be. He had had 3 years of college at a University (they didn't mention which one) and my bmom met him when she was a student in college in Iowa.
That is all that I have:(
Again thank you for helping.
