Need some answers about military parents

Hi, Just writing because I had some questions and thought this would be a good place to start. Both my birth parents were in the army reserves throughout the 80's and most likely presently. They were over seas when my b-mom got pregnant. I guess what i'm looking for is, do the reserves keep a roster of names of those discharged, or just a list of names of reservists? If so, is there a way the public can look at those records? Would you recommend that I call a reserve office and find out if they know? How does that work? If you can offer any insight to this matter, I'd appreciate it. thanks E.
