I am currently taking PATH training through the DYFS in NJ, and have been told that there are many drug addicted infants that need homes. I am open to learning more about this and was wondering if anyone knows how I can get more reliable information on this topic. I would love to speak to an expert in the field but do not know how to go about doing this. Has anyone tried contacting a doctor who is an expert in his field about the possible effects of babies who are born drug addicted? I have read things online but really would like to speak to a doctor who can be honest with me and also be open to answering questions. I'd love any advice that could help me out!
Also, if anyone knows of a specific doctor in NJ that deals in this area, could you PM his or her name? Thanks so much!

I would advise you to go to the special needs board - there are many threads on drug exposed babies. Also, if you have a referral to a pediatrician you plan on using they should be able to help you. Try calling your local hospital or better yet, a childrens hospital near you.
Good luck - these little ones can be amazing

Hey Bumpkin, thanks for the advice. I have checked out the special needs board and have read some very helpful posts. There were many encouraging posts as well as many scary posts. And I know with drug addicted babies, things can go either way. I guess I just wanted a doctors advice on the topic. So I can search for a pediatrician before I actually adopt my child? Do I just call some doctors and tell them that I am adopting soon and will be in need of a pediatrician?
I just might also try calling my local hospital and see if they can refer me to someone.
you are most welcome. If you don't have any ideas for pediatricians, if you call your local hospital, especially if it is a more urban hospital perhaps they could put you in touch with someone who handles drug exposed babies. Many people sit down with a Dr before "having" their babies (however they come)
I think the NJ forums is quite active as well, perhaps they could give you some direction.
Best of luck to you!
