My husband and I are both active duty and are beginning the adoption process in Belarus. I am looking for any information about whether or not permissive TDY is granted for couples who are adopting. I have not had any luck with the MPF, but was hoping that someone here would have information about this. A former coworker of my boss was given 3 weeks of permissive TDY in conjunction with her leave during adoption, but I am not sure if it was a special case? We hate to have to both go back to work withing 1-2 weeks of returning to Belarus with our infant child, and appreciate any input that you may have. Thanks!!
We have adopted twice and know a few other families who are active duty that have adopted and in our experiences no one was granted permissive TDY for an adoption. My husband saved his 30 days of leave and took them when we brought our children home.

You will have to check with the chain of command. Your case might be treated differently because you are both active duty. But to my knowledge there isn't an official program, but commanders are encouraged to approve ordinary leave once a child has been placed. There is another unofficial program, but it is also subject to command approval. It is the four month assignment and deployment deferment. It allows 1 member to avoid these things during the introduction period of the placement! Hope this helps! But your best information will come from you chain of command!
