Hello everyone!
Our return trip to Memphis will most likely overnight in Amsterdam. This past weekend on our return we stayed at the Sheraton that's attached to the airport. Will our two boys need a "transit visa" for the overnight in Amsterdam?
Any info is greatly appreciated!

Hi Alli -
(I think I've seen you posting on the Russia board, so I'm assuming that's where you're returning from)
I overnighted in Amsterdam as well when I was returning with my son last summer (also stayed at the Sheraton). Even though we incurred the cost of an extra night in a hotel it was great to break up that long return trip. Since he's travelling on a Russian passport he will need a visa - but as long as your stay will be less than 24 hours they issue these at the airport. Longer than 24 hours, you should visit the Dutch Consolate or Emabassy in Moscow to get the visa.
It's a pretty simple process and the Dutch immigration folks were most helpful. As you're coming off your flight and out of the gate area and approaching the passport checkpoint (before you go through and to baggage claim) their office is just to the right.
Since you're going on to Memphis I assume you're going KLM/NW (same as we used). If so, they'll issue you boarding cards when you check in in Moscow for your flight the following day and also check your luggage all the way through (just keep in carryon what you need for overnight). That way, no need to deal with baggage claim (and dragging all that stuff over to the Sheraton) and the next day you avoid the long check in line and go straight to security.
Once you go through security there's a nice kiddie play area as well as a quiet (and clean!) napping/feeding/bathing/changing room.
Hope this is helpful
