Hi,
I'd appreciate opinions and also would like to hear others experiences in respite care too. Here's our situation:
We have signed up to Foster to Adopt; however, because we are moving in October to Central Florida we're wondering if we should just do Respite Care June-October. We've been told that if we foster to adopt here in the Keys, that when we move the child could not go with us and would have to be placed in a different foster home because children cannot leave the county. However, we were also told there is always a chance that by the time we leave the child could either be reunited with their birth family, or the child's parental rights terminated, meaning we could then begin the adoption process and the child would be able to move with us so long as we were in the process of adopting the child.
So what I'd like opinions on is do you think we should just do respite, or go ahead and foster?
I'm also worried if we did just respite care, that once we move to Central Florida would there be any problems in us then going back to Foster to Adopt mode?
I hate the idea of a child being placed more than they need to be. And I don't want to be the cause for any more disruptions or stress in a child's life, but at the same time they could be returned to their parents by the time we leave or PRT could happen. I don't know what to do. I'm also looking online to see if there are any children that I feel are a match for our family that we could just out right adopt.
