We are just starting to look into adoption and I am reading every post I see. Thanks to you all for great information and making me feel like this is all possible.
I have no idea where to start in deciding on an agency and am wondering if anyone is willing to share the agency they used. One of our biggest questions is whether we should use an agency that only works with our state or someone who is national in case we are reassigned in the middle of the process.

Hi and Welcome
We are too a military family and are currently active with an agency. We lived overseas (Italy) and moved to Guam last November. It is possible to adopt being in the military. Sometimes I just feel it takes forever to happen, but that really isn't a military thing, just adoption can take a while.
If you would like more info on our agency please feel free to PM me.
Good Luck

My husband is in the USN and we have recently PCS'd to Florida (Jacksonville) from Italy (March 2004). We have been married for 4.5 years, have no children, and are unable to have our own bio child. We are longing to become parents; however, are discouraged by all of the steps that one must take to become parents, not to mention the costs involved. It is unreal how much a child can "cost"?
At the current time, we are unsure of where to begin and become frequently discouraged. Anyone with any advice and/or experience, I would greatly appreciate your input. Feel free to email me at Want2BAMom2004@yahoo.com. Looking forward to hearing from anyone soon.
Thanks!
Hi guys,
We are an AF family (also pcs'd from Italy 2001). We had all the same feelings and fustration. We did the whole fertility thing while overseas (yuck) and decided on adoption, once we were back in the states. Our story is a very positive one...we started out doing a Guatemala adoption did our homestudy, gathered all the documents, fingerprints, INS pretty much everything...
and when we first got here I put in an application with the County DCFS (social services) and we were offered a 7 month old little boy, it sounded perfect. So we did our Fost/adopt courses (very quickly) but, the situation did not work out (the judge gave the mom 6 more months of reunification, so the county could not say what was going to happen) so we had to say it wasn't for us and continued with our international adoption (gathering documents and such not). Well about a month later, we got the call again from the county...and our little girl was born a few
weeks later. A wonderful woman walked into DCFS and said she would be unable to care for this child (she already had 3 kids) we were able to meet here and spend some time together and we were even there for delivery (it was the greatest day in our lives)
All I can say it is possible and it does happen for people. I can remember pulling my hair out trying to get from point A to point B (gathering documents, fingerprinting, etc) the process can be very stressful. All I can say, is don't give up.
Well it has been two years now and now we are doing a high risk fost/adopt with a little 4 mo. boy. We have had him since birth, but the chances are almost zero for us to adopt. It will be
hard to let him go, but we knew going into that it was fost/adopt.
I would check into your county social services and see what programs they have for adoption. They have a great policy here, that they look at placing infants with families that don't/can't have kids first. When you adopt thru the county the adoption its basically free (we paid $20.00 to file some court papers).
