i just found this site. and glad i saw this board... we are a military family. we live in san diego ca. i have 2 girls 7 and 4. i just had 5 months ago gastric bypass surgery and i have choosen not to have any more children. but i was really curious about adoption. i really no nothing about how to start or anything. i don't know if there anything around me. i don't even know if we can we move so much. i have lots of questions. i do not want a baby. i want a preschooler age boy. does not wanting a baby make it easier? or not? i also would want a Caucasian boy. does that make it hard or easier or not? i just don't know. does adopting cost alot. we are military with not alot of money. if anyone can help with anwser please email me.. noratrulock@yahoo.com nora
You should seriously explore waiting child/foster care adoption if you're interested in parenting an older child. It is most definitely possible for military families to adopt, and in waiting child adoption your expenses are extremely low to none.
Your best bet at this point would be to contact your local Social Services/Child Welfare office and inquire about materials, information sessions, etc.
You can also find a great deal of information at your local library and online at places like www.adoptuskids.com and the National Adoption Information Clearinghouse http://naic.acf.hhs.gov/.
HTH, best of luck,
Regina, AMom to Ryan Joshua Thomas (DH is USN/RET was USN/AD when we adopted him)
