I have two children already and I am just starting to consider adoping a third. I know Bulgaria has had some law changes recemtly that might allow families with children to adopt there.
I would appreciate any comments about how the process is going (or not going) since the law changes, or how long the wait is for a referral now. Also, if you wanted to PM me with information (good or bad) about agencies that have adoption programs in Bulgaria I would appreciate it.
Thanks.
Rebecca
Hi,
We are a family of 6 and are in the process of adopting at least 1 and maybe 2 from Bulgaria. It depends on how old a child you would like to adopt or if you are willing to go for a special needs child. They probably give the youngest children to couples that have no children. We have our paper work there and it is being translated and legalized this week and hopefully will get to the MoJ soon.
To adopt in Bulgaria you have to use an accredited agency(no facillitators) and there are 12 accredited Bulgarian agencies and 1 US agency. All other US agencies have to go through one of the 12 Bulgarian agencies. No agency has special pics or selections of kids and all referrals have to come through the MoJ.
We are using Family-NA which is out of Sofia and I would be happy to give you more info on them privately. I collected all my own documents and got them apostilled and mailed them to Bulgaria and saved $4500(not using an american agency to hold my hand).
Hope this helps some.
Mary
