ok i am very new to all of this. I was told a while ago that I might not be able to have children. My husband and I are still young and we want to start looking into adoption now instead of waiting. I just want to know if anyone can point me in the right way. I need to fing out about a Home study in my area (North Dakota) and see what I need to do to get things moving. If anyone could give me any info on anything I would be so greatful. Thank you and have a Blessed Day.

Krissa-
First, congratulations on your decision to explore adoption now and not waiting to exhaust your options on the biological route. At least this way, if biological kids aren't a possibility you already have a "plan B".
My husband and I are pursuing International Adoption. Have you decided if you are interested in Domestic or International yet? While lots of the process is the same for both- there are differences that will help determine what your next step should be. Both options require a homestudy as you've already figured out. We recently PCS'd to Ft. Leavenworth and had to have an addendum added to our homestudy- which means I was in the same boat you are now.....trying to find a qualified homestudy agency and social worker. I simply did a search online in the yellow pages for my area and printed out all the agencies and started calling! I asked about price, length of time until completion, experience doing international adoption homestudies etc. Through this interviewing process I selected a social worker and worked with her to schedule the visit.
On a more general level- we have been at this for 2.5 years as our first two countries had internal problems that shut down adoptions. This has given me ample time to exhaustively research each step of the process. I would suggest you get online with your favorite search engine and just start digging around. There's tons of sites devoted to nothing but adoption. There's also a few magazines that you can subscribe to, and also read online. I'm glad you found this forum, but there are also country specific forums if you choose international adoption and there are also domestic adoption fourms. In fact, the information can be overwhelming if you aren't careful.
I can forward you more specific information, just let me know which direction you are headed.
:)
