Has anyone been on the accelerated protocal for only a month was able to bring in lactation?
I already have a 5 month old baby in my hme that I am adopting. Trying to induce lactaion without medicine was not helpfull neither was just being on the domperidone for a month. I think my biggest problem was that I wasn't doing it as often as i should. I only used the lact-aid maybe 6 times a day. But i have been using it since she was about 7 weeks.
I was feeling very frustrated at not getting any milk at all. So I started the accelerated protocal and have been on it about a week. Do I have to wait until the 30-60 days to start pumping or is it better for me to start pumping now as frequently as i can with the Pump in Style advanced.
Is there any hope that I still might create milk....or am i just one of the few who will never produce milk? Anyone have a similiar hard time with this. I also have had fertility problems with PCOS and have heard that that might affect my milk supply.
Any ideas?

A year ago I was supposed to adopt a newborn so I took Yasmin, a birth control pill, for a month and then I started taking two herbs, Fenugrek and Blessed Thistle and the dom. and was pumping every 2-3 hours during the day and once at night and after the first month I was getting 20 cc per feeding. We ended up not adopting him so I had to dry up so I didn't get to see how much I would have gotten to after feeding him. I wish you the best of luck!!

Hi
You should not pump at all while you are on the NG protocol..accelerated or regular! The idea is your breast tissue/glands/milk ducts etc..need to "mature" and by pumping you will interfere with that process...hold off..take the meds for at least 1 month., stop the Yasmin...then continue with domperidone and pumping ..
I dont generally recommend the protocol to those who are already nursing a baby..it will stop any milk supply you had developed already..even though you say you have none..some women cannot get a drop out with a pump..yet the baby is getting some milk..and by the way..the domperidone frequently takes at least 3 weeks to start working!! I dont think you gave it enough of a chance...
Also..make sure the baby is latching correctly..have you had a certified lactation consultant check to make sure? If the baby is not latched correctly..this will effect your milk supply...
By the way..I know of at least 2 women with PCOS who made full milk supplies! Most on the accelerated do not make full supplies..but remember there is more to breastfeeding than just the milk! I am happy the baby is using the Lact-aid well and it sounds like you are doing a great job!
Thank you for your help.
My little girl is officially ours now as of last month.
I was on the protocal for 3o days and then stopped and started everything else.
I went from getting drops to now light sprays.....sometimes I can get about 7 sprays out of my right breast....and maybe 3 sprays from my right side..when I express manually. When i pump I only get like a drop .....and about 3 times now it has done a real light spray.
I guess the reason why I've been at a stand still....with the quantity is because I came back down to only pumping/lactid 6-8 times a day and once at night.
Hopefully as I increase her feedings or pumping I will start to build more.
I'm just happy I was able to get something....after all my efforts.
Hi
Getting so many sprays with hand expression is fabulous!! I know of one woman who induced lacation and had a full supply by hand expressing alone (and domperidone) and she never used a pump! I never go the hang of hand expressing..tried the Marmet technique...Congratulations on the baby being officially yours! I know that is such a relief to you...you are doing such a great job..keep up the good work!

They are protocals set up to induce breastfeeding. You don't have to use medicine and herbs to start lactating but in my case...I definately needed it.
They are called the Newman Goldfarb Protocals. You choose which one fits your situation the best. The longer you can be on the Yasmin(birth dontrol pill/Domperidone) the better chance you will have of getting a larger milk supply. The Yasmin tricks your body into thinking your pregnant and your breasts begin making milk making tissue(the more milk making tissue you have the better chances of a good milk supply). You have to use the Yasmin a minimum of 30 days to have an affect(that is how long I was on it). Then you stop the Yasmin and continue with the Domperidone and add Fenugreek & blessed thisthle(herbs) as well as begin pumping. The more you pump the better chance of getting a supply.
Using a high grade double breast pump like the Medela Pump in Style or breastfeeding using the lact-aid 8-16 times a day should help you get started. You should also try and pump/breastfeed 1-2 times a night because you have higher levels of prolactin(milk making hormone) between the hours of 1am-5am. It took me 10 days before i started to see any milk. It came as a small drop out of my breast. Then slowely it became a little more and more...until i was able to get a small stream of milk.
You can look up information at...
Asklenore.com, abrw.com, fourfriends.com, there are other sites as well. I found the Newman Goldfarb Protocals at the asklenore.com website. It had a about a 20 page print out that I could use to teach my family and doctor about the process and benefits of adoptive breastfeeding.
If you need anymore help ...I'm here for you!!! Good luck...it is a wonderful experience and definately worth the time and effort involved.
There was a warning thing out back when I was using it. There is nothing wrong with the drug, it's just that the US has a very strict policy. Canada had been using that drug for a long time for the purpose of increasing milk supply, it's just that not enough actual testing for that purpose has been done in the US, to make that drug open to everyone here.
You can still buy it through places like Cananda, mexico or and other places. Back when i was getting it, there were several compound pharmaices in the US that sold it(with a perscription from your Doctor...which my doctor did give to me....that was only last August).
I bought mine through New Guinea(it was the cheapest) ...I can give you there info if you need it, just PM me. I'm not sure if i can share the company name and number and stuff on this open forum. It takes about 10-14 days to get to you and the costs just depends on how much you buy at a time.
I know it certianly helped me create milk. The only side affects I noticed from it was tiredness and I was always thirsty and I had to pee a lot. It was definately worth the side affects, to also experience the side affects of creating breastmilk.
I had used it for a while before starting the Yasmin and had no success. So I definately recommend starting off with Yasmin + Domperidone for at least a month, or as long as you can. Everyone is different. I'm sure if I had just pumped/used the lactaid 12-16 times a day it would have worked a lot faster for me.....but i didn't realize I had to do it that often at first.
I know all the medicine and herbs helped, but now looking back I think I probably would have been able to do it myself with just a pump/lact-aid and total determination to do it 12-16 times a day. But there is no doubt with the herbs and medicine your quantitiy really does increase. So don't be discouraged if you can't do all the extra's. Just do the best you can and it will happen. I thought it would never happen for me...but it did and now I'm sure anyone can do it...as well.

Hello,
I was able to lactate with just pumping every 2-3 hours during the day and then after 2-3 weeks, I began the dom. I did not take birth control pills or fenugreek to start. I also have never been pregnant and have PCOS, so I was happily surprised. I'm currently making only 2 ounces a day but I have no baby home yet, but I should within the next month or so, hopefully!!! :D
Good luck!
