We have met with an attorney who turned out to have little knowledge of CONTESTED step parent adoptions.
The bio has not been in the picture for 2 years with no contact and no support. He moved out of state across the country. My daughter is 5 and has no recollection of the bio and just knows that her dad now is her dad!!
This is the hard part. We don't know where he is, and if they do track him down we are pretty sure he won't consent.
DO WE TERMINATE HIS PARENTAL RIGHTS (and is that difficult to do)? AND WHAT HAPPENS IF HE CONTESTS THE ADOPTION-- DOES IT MEAN THAT IT WON'T HAPPEN?
