I am having a debate with my husband.... we want to name a baby girl Kathleen, we haven't decided whether it's a first or middle name. i say we can name her Kathleen, after his mom,and call her Katie. He says you don't call a Kathleen Katie , you call her Kathy, which is what his mom goes by.So I need some opinions.... is it ok to call her Katie?
Also I need some names that go with Kathleen as a middle name. And any boy names that haven't been used as girl names would be great! We don't know what we're having yet! But, I don't want any boy names that could be used for both, or girl names that could be either.
Thanks for your help!!
Krista
Of course Kathleen can be, and is, shortened to Katie! Funny, my mom is Kathleen but goes by Kate, and my cousin is Katherine and goes by Kathy. As for middle names, what about your mother's name?

Thanks for the advice, we actually thought of that, well my mothers middle name, Michelle. Which is also my sister and sis in laws middle names.
Does Kathleen Michelle sound ok?
Definitely shorten it!
I grew up with Kathleen Marie...(catholic grade school!)
Katie would be great!
Though I've been Kathy to my friends and family, I also go by Kat to my internet friends....
It's wonderful to be named after someone (both of my Mom's grandmothers were Katherines...but my dad decided that I'd be Kathleen instead! uhhhgggg!)
Kathleen Michelle is fine!
My name is Kathleen, and I have always gone by Kati. (Yeah, no "e"). So I definitely think that Kati is fine for Kathleen.

I like Kathleen Grace, Kathleen Rose or Kathleen Elizabeth (which would probably end up Katy Beth). For some reason I think either a 1 syllable or 3 (or more) syllable middle flows better.
Of course, I'm a little partial to my 3 boys names....Hunter, Sawyer and Dawson. I've heard of girls being named Hunter, and it's pretty overused now (mine is 13, so was uncommon then).
