This thread has been quiet for quite some time. I thought I would see if there is anyone out there looking to adopt from WI. I live in Waukesha, WI and we're working with Adoptions of Wisocnsin, LLC in Madison, WI. DH and I are hoping to adopt a newborn and are just finishing our home study application and hpoe to have it mailed in this week.
I guess I thought I would just see who else might be out there and where they are in the adoption process. I would love to hear any success stories also!
Thanks.
Shawn
Suzette,
Great to hear from you. I'm glad to hear of someone else out there from Wisconsin. How are things going for you? Much left of the Home study? We are waiting for our background checks to come back and then we can schedule our home study visits. How long did it take you to schedule the visits? Have things been going okay with the agency? I've found that I often have to call them to follow up on things which is sometimes frustrating but I know they are very busy. Otherwise so far, we've been quite happy with them.
In the meantime, I've been finishing our adoption website and trying to get it linked up to other websites. I haven't yet found a support group in the area, though I have found some listed. I can let you know as we get a little further.
I'd love to stay in touch with you and hear how things are going for you! We aren't far apart...maybe we'll find a similar support group. I'll let you know.
Good luck to you too!

Hi Shawn,
How have you been? I know the waiting is so hard during the homestudy process. But it does go quickly once you get the first visit done. We had our first visit on Sep. 7th. Our second visit was scheduled for 10 days later. But we couldn't make it, because my mother-in-law had to go to the hospital the day before that visit was scheduled. So we had our second visit on Oct. 1st. Our last homestudy visit is on Oct. 29th. They could have gotten us in sooner, but we're taking things a little slower because of my MIL's health.
We are very happy with the agency. We did alot of research, trying to find the best agency that fit us. And they are great!
We also have an appt. this Fri. at the agency. They're going to help us with our parent profile.
Would you mind if we stayed in touch through Personal Message? I don't know how much we can talk about specific agencies on the message boards. It's so nice to know there's someone going through the same things as we are. And we live only 25 min. away. My sister lives in Waukesha. So I go there pretty often.
Hi!!!
We're in Madison. Have our homestudy submitted, profile/letter sent in and are w-a-i-t-i-n-g..... geez this is taking forever, it's been a couple weeks already. haha We're looking for a newborn, domestic. Otherwise don't really have preferences on race/gender/location etc, do hope for reasonably healthy tho! I honestly don't know how we'd have gotten this far without this forum. Currently my 'task' is to figure out what to take when we have to travel, and what the heck to do about diapers.
Hi there! Glad to here there are a few of us out here.
We've recently heard from an adoption atty who came across our website and to make a long story short, we're in the process of adopting a baby boy due in Feb, 2005. We're so excited, so scared...we've been through so much this past year but we're ready!
Please keep us informed on how things are going for you!

Hi there,
I live in New Berlin, WI. My husband and I just had our first child and are hoping to have 1-2 more, but would also like to adopt internationally. We go to Honduras every year with our church's mission trip and would love to adopt a child from there. It is probably a bit early for us to start working on this, but I am really excited about it and was wondering if anyone had advice for us as we begin to think about how to make this happen.
Best wishes to everyone!

Welcome Kelly! Congratulations on your new addition! I wish I could offer you some advice on how to proceed with an international adoption, but I'm not really sure. Can you do some research online? Could you contact an adotpion agency that does international adoptions? I would think there are some out there! We're working on an adoption support group in southeast wisconsin for women/couples at different stages of adoption. Feel free to come anytime, or email if you would like more infomrmation. I think it'll be after the holidays before we have a meeting. PM me and I'll send you my email address. We will try and do whatever we can to help you!
Best of luck to you!

Hello and welcome, Kelly!
What a beautiful baby you have! Congratulations! My husband and I are in the process of adopting right now. We're adopting a domestic newborn through an agency in Madison. But I have alot of info on International adoption, from all the research I've done. Also, I have a friend who adopted from Guatemala. If you want to PM me, I could give you the names of some agencies who adopt from Honduras.
Take care!
Suzette
Hi,
Just wondering what agency in Madison you are using. We live in Madison, and that would sure be more convenient than driving to GA!! Also, do you live in Madison?
Shawn:
I am brand new here! From New Berlin, WI.
We are adopting from China - we just finished up our dossier and hoping to send to out by mid-November.
Keep in touch - this is quite an experience!

Hi Megi
You probably didn't realize it but this is a really old thread -- I don't know if the above people are still around.
Anyway, I'm in Wisconsin and thought I'd say hi!
...since I last wrote on this thread. In early dec 2004 we got a 2 day old AA girl, she is absolutely wonderful. We got the call out of the blue on a wed, if we were interested in her we had to be in GA by fri morning. We scrambled, bigtime. As long as I'm reminiscing- I was already in some kind of happy daze at finishing my final exams for my accounting degree less that 13 hrs before! What a wonderful month it was!!! We did end up driving to GA, wasn't so bad. It couldn't have worked out better, we couldn't have PLANNED it any better! It can and does happen! Good Luck!
Hey There,
Just wanted to let everyone know that I am still around. I am not much help, since I have not yet been through the application process, but I hope people don't mind my being part of the community. I truly hope to adopt someday (2008?) and hearing your stories makes me so excited! I know someone posted that they live in New Berlin. My husband and I currently live in NB, but are moving to Brookfield in about a month. But, if anyone ever wanted to get together for support or anything we would be happy to host, attend, etc.
God bless you all!
Kelly
Hi everyone, Hi Megi.
I'm still here. Not on this thread much but still get notifications if someone responds.
Life is wonderful! We adopted our son, Gavin, who was born in February. We went through a domestic semi-open adoption, and finalized in June. I wouldn't change anything, though it was a long, scary road. Gavin is the light of our lives and we are madly in love with our son.
Unexpectedly, after 6 miscarriages, and without really trying, we find ourselves pg with baby #2 and due in March. Our children will be 13 months apart, busy but I think it's going to be a blast. I can't wait. Being a mother is everything I ever dreamed of and more.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to offer you support or answer any questions. I'm around.
Best of luck.
Take care.

Hi ladies I just thought I would add my 2 cents. We live in central WI near Wausau we had our homestudy done by an agency out of Appleton. We are approved and waiting and doing our own match facilitating which is not working well and I am really down about it. I have sent homestudies to nearly all state DCFS hoping to adopt waiting children but we are also considering an AA program. We are approved for a 0-4 any race any gender. We are a middle income home I stay at home and we have 3 bio children international is out due to costs and most domestic infant programs although we are very OK with it being a toddler aged child we adopt. Just thought I would introduce.
Hi, everyone! I'm located in west central WI, between La Crosse and Eau Claire. We've got an application for an agency sitting in a drawer right now, waiting to be filled out after the first of the year, and once we file that application and get the ball rolling, we're hoping to be a part of a domestic infant program, most likely AA.
The moment my husband confirmed that, yes, he was ready to go and that, yes, we would start the home study after we got our tax refund, I began to plan--the nursery, the diapers, the daycare, just like any expectant mother would. It almost feels silly, but why not enjoy it, just like anyone else, right?
I'm hoping to meet more of you here--PM me if you're interested in trading stories :)
