New to forum, from Westminster, MD
My husband and I have been married for only 5 months now but have been together for over 4 years. We both want to adopt, but are worried that we will have to wait for quite a while before we can even start the process. We are interested in adopting domestically (for our first adoption), it seems that international adoptions have min. marriage requirements. Does any one have any suggestions?

Before my husband and I married, we had wanted to foster to adopt. But, as I talk to more people and learn more I am afraid of the lose of a child. I have heard many negative stories of fostering in MD, how biological parents' rights take years and years to terminate (if ever). I have GREAT respect for those that foster children, I just don't know if I have the strength that is needed.
Have you considered international adoption? For international adoption, the marriage's length is determined by the country from which you would be adopting. Some countries do have minimums (typically 2-3 years), but there are other countries which do not have minimums. We are adopting internationally for a number of reasons and it is going very well (hope to have a referral within the next month!). If you are open to int'l adoption, I'd suggest looking into requirements of countries you'd consider.
Best,
