My husband had his fingerprints submitted for our homestudy agency criminal check in mid September and was told we would get the results in 2 weeks. We got the child abuse registry clearance but haven't received the rest of the criminal check. All they have told the agency is that it is delayed but havn't told us why. We live in California and my husband has 1 arrest 9 years ago and the charges were dropped. Our agency told us that they couldn't even request information as to why it is delayed until 30 days after they were submitted so they sent a fax 2 1/2 weeks ago and still not a word. They keep telling us we just have to wait.(it's been 7 weeks so far) This just seems odd to me that they won't even tell us why it is delayed. Does this sound normal? Any ideas on what we can do about it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think there is much you can do about it. I know that sometimes (this happened to me two years ago) when the fingerprints aren't clear they might take longer to do the criminal check. After almost 2 months of waiting I was told I had to do the fingerprints again. It was really frustrating.

embarrassing but my DH had a ding that was included in the pre-paperwork. the investigator is independant of the CW on purpose... so it delayed us waiting for them to do their digging, we needed extra references and an in persom with the investigator. the agency and application stood still until the investigator signed off. the agency wasn't privy to any info... so no jaded CW scrutinizing a non violent whoopsie from when he was younger. but yes the wait was cruddy
Some private investigators who will also conduct background checks you may also talk with Background Information Searches and see if they can help they are a legit background search company.Just simply telling and getting the signature of potential candidates that a criminal background check will be run will deter most people with criminal backgrounds from applying.Cheating Spouse Investigator
