I am a birthmother who has been reunited with my son who is now 16. We met just over a year ago because of his searching. The whole experience has been incredible and continues to be one of love and goodness. My question is this....I have a 7 year old daughter and 4 1/2 year old son. When is the right time to tell them who my son is. They have met him, they love him, but just know him as our special friend. Is now the right time or should I wait until they are older and possibly better equipped to understand this delicate situation. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!
Hi,
I don't have any experience with this, however, from what I have learned on here, the younger the better! I would suggest telling them now to avoid them being hurt by the deceit when they find out later.

Thank you for the words of encouragement. That is why I am stuggling with this so much, I don't believe in secrets and don't ever want to create that environment in my home with my family. I also don't want to overwhelm my children with information that they are not equipped to process. My whole adoption experience has gone so incredibly well, I'm sure it will continue.
