I have questions that no one seems to be able to answer. I hope you can help.
1) If the baby is born in one state, and the adoptive parents live in another state, what does the amended birth certificate reflect? In other words, can the place of birth be changed?
2) How common is it for the date of birth to be changed? How common was it in the past?
3) Do private agencies go by the laws of the state the baby was born in, or the state of the adoptive parents.
I hope someone can answer these questions for me. It is all very confusing.
Thanks,
Deb

Thanks for the answers -- however do you think you could be more specific. I am searching for the son I relinquished in 1979. It is difficult to search without knowing whether or not his birth certificate reflects the true date of birth or the true place.
I relinquished in Georgia through LDS Family Services. There is a good possibility that he was placed in Utah. I have heard rumors that the date and place could be changed, but no one seems to know -- or at least they won't tell me. And I am not asking for specific information about my son, just in general. There is this aura of mystery around amended birth certificates. It is frustrating.
Thanks again for your help,
Deb
