We have another court date in a week to set the date for a trail, if needed. The BF is saying that he will consent, but is requesting a few things. One of the requests was strange to my husband and I. He wants a copy of the childrens social security cards. Does anyone know what he could want that for? The first thing that came to our mind was fradulent use...
The other requests aren't that strange and of course one is forgiving past due arrears, which I am willing to do as long as we can get this done.
If he consents, does that mean that he can't appeal anything? I know that you can appeal trials, but does he have time to change his mind if he consents?
I would not give him copies of the children's social security cards if I could avoid it. If he really wants them as the pre-adoption-bio-father he can go to the social security office and request them himself. He just needs to fill out a few forms and provide proof he is a parent.
I would call the social security office and see if you could get entirely new cards issued after an adoption. You might even mention that the BF is acting suspicious and possibly planning on using the social security numbers in a fraudulent manner. Let them know an adoption is pending and see what they can do for you. If you can get new numbers and cards then giving him the old ones won't matter. It may be some extra paperwork for you but if you can get a consent out of it, it may be worth the hassle.
A consent can only be withdrawn with court approval. He cannot just decide he doesn't consent anymore and withdraw it. You could probably finalize an adoption before he could even get around to filing a withdrawl of consent. In one of my stepparent adoptions we had the consent but it was the investigation that took time. All we needed was that report approving the adoption and we could set a court date. With a consent I've seen some adoptions go through and finalize in less than 45 days.
I hope this helps!

Thanks!
I was pretty sure that at this time he was able to request new cards from the social security office too. I contact the social security office and see what they can tell me about issuing new cards after the adoption is complete.
Thanks for all your help.
