Anyone waiting to Adopt thru State/Recently Adopted
I decided to start a new thread since there doesn't seem to be alot going on.
I am somewhat new to posting on the forums. I usually only post when there is something of interest to me, but I thought I would see if there was anyone out there who is Waiting to Adopt thru State or has Recently Adopted thru State.
My husband & I are currenlty waiting to see if we have been approved by the State to adopt. We finished our Pre-Service Training & homestudies. Our Sw said that she would have her report to her supervisor by the middle of this week. We are hoping to adopt a girl ages 0-7yrs old. What do you think our chances are for finding a girl in that range who has already had TPR & is available for adoption?? How long was your wait for approval before you could begin your search?? What kind of problems, if any...did you experience??
Thank you,
Solarscarlet

Craftingmama, I think we just had some bad timing and bad luck. Our background check took a loooong time because DH is a police officer. His name is associated with every suspicion of child abuse complaint he's ever filed with DCF, but the computer records don't necessarily say in what capacity. The intake worker had to open every case file, make sure his name was there as the filer and not a suspected abuser, then write a report about each incident. By the time that was done, we'd missed the April MAPP classes and our office doesn't offer classes over the summer. We got in the September classes which ran through early November, then didn't get assigned a s/w because budget cuts left staffing up in the air. Other budget cuts have overloaded our s/w so the homestudy is taking longer than it normally would. This whole process has sure taught me patience. ;)

Hello,
My husband and I are parents to our two bio boys ages 5 and 7:woohoo: . We are looking to adopt a girl under the age of 4 throught the State of Georgia. We would be happy if she had a brother or sister to tag along!
We have been approved for Foster to Adopt since October of 2008 and are still waiting. Anyone else adopt from Georgia and have luck with getting a younger child?
I am always looking for stories like ours, even if it is from another state, it gives me hope.
I was just certified by the state last week and am waiting for my daughter. I'm looking to adopt a 6 to 11 year old girl. It has taken me six months to get this far, and I have been very diligent in getting all my end of the piles of requirements done quickly. I know that finding a younger child will be harder, and your wait may be longer, but they are out there...I began the process in July of 08 with orientation. MAPP classes began the end of August. I had all my paperwork in way ahead of time. But it STILL took until the 13 of February to be certified to adopt. I am also licensed for foster, which was complete about 3 weeks before certification. This is in Arizona. I am told that my completion was "fast" for this state. Now, the waiting... I am so ready, but must try to be patient. It's hard!
The wait may not be as long as you think. Keep in touch with your social worker on a weekly basis and ask if there are situations available. Don't be shy. SW's are very busy and by calling them or emailing them on a regular basis keeps your profile in the front of their minds if a child opens up for adoption or if they know of a situation that may fit your profile. But it does take patience. It's totally worth it.
Turns out in my case, we were supposed to be licensed in September but found out in January that our SW never submitted anything on our behalf. So, here we are in February just getting licensed.
Oh well. Patience right? ok, now where are my kids? LOL. Looks like patience is something I will be practicing alot in the coming year.

Hello All:
We began our journey 1 year ago March 2009 by taking our 10 weeks of classes which we completed, received our homestudy, background checks etc and was approved for adoption!
However needless to say since our approval in November there really has not been much going on. We have made a few inquiries with little to no communication back from the agencies that have these children available for adoption...
I know We may be a little impatient however I really hope that I will be blessed with a child or children...hoping to adopt a little girl or 2...
Fingers crossed in Florida!!!:D
We've had 2 of our FC for 3.5 years and are finally getting to adopt this year. It's been a long hard battle, but definately worth it. We also had an infant recently placed with us and are hoping to adopt her as well. Looked through private agencies, but found this was for us. Never felt so blessed!
We are foster parents to four children now ages 7, 5, 3, and 22 months. Two of them many become available for adoption. However, we also just sent our homestudy to our state after finding two girls (siblings) online. They are 15 and almost 10. We are hoping we will be chosen and soon. What do you think about our chances? Thanks
My DH and I are just getting started with the proccess of becoming fp, we have are first meeting tomorrow. Our classes start the middle of Jan. We are very excited and nervous, but will keep praying and know things will work how they should. I have read several threads and think this site will be a great help and comfort for us. Thanks to all. I will keep you posted. wish us luck.

[FONT="Comic Sans MS"]Hello just was reading through some of the older post and we are a part of an agency that works with the state. The agency I work with is a private agency that works with the state and I am working both private and foster to adopt programs. I was wondering if any one else out there has worked with an agency like this? If so could you please tell me your experience? Would you do it again?
Blessings and Prayers :wings:

Hi! I am new to forums.
My husband and I have 2 boys, and we are currently waiting to fost adopt a little girl....or a sib group of 2 under the age of 6.
The approval process, to us, was easy. It took about a month for us to be certified foster parents, but we got our paper work and stuff done ASAP.
We have been waiting for over a year. We've done respite a bunch of times and really love it! We are anxiously awaiting our own placement, and it feels like we have been waiting forever. I know there is always a possibility of a long wait, but it really feels like we have been waiting longer than everyone else :/
I feel so inexperienced with this! I don't want to pester our agency, and I know they can't just pull children out of thin air....but I know there are kids waiting!
Should we be calling our agency? What do we say?
They know we're waiting.
We have turned down a few placements, mostly because they were +1 child and all boys, with issues we didn't feel we were up to dealing with.
We are also homeschoolers, so I was really hoping to get a placement during the summer. I thought that would give us some time for getting to know eachother before school starts.
I am just at a loss as far as what to do! We need some advice! Should we switch agencies? Can you adopt through the state without going through an agency?
We are approved with this agency, so I assume we must stay with them, unless we go through the whole process all over again.
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Call them.. or email...i would about every other week or so. Dont switch agencies...i would say if u got approved in a month u are super lucky...most agencies take months even when u do all ur stuff quickly.
Or some would say plan a major project...like dor instance my brother is newly liscensed...they wsnt ro get aupplies for a total kitchen makeover...when they refurned home they had gotten a calm..works everytime....lol good luck to u
Thanks :) I think we'll still get some info on our local state agency...I'm not even sure who it is, so I think I should at least know, for future reference.
We are also looking at houses, so I honestly thought that we'd buy a house and then get the phone call, lol. But we haven't found the right house yet.
