My husband and I are an older couple him 63 me 54 we want so much to adopt a little girl age 4-12 we want to adopt thur foster care I am diabetic and on disability would this hinder us from being able to adopt he is semi retired and works three days a week.....
No. As long as you have a letter from your doctor stating that you are in good health and you have the Diabetes under control, that should not stop you from being able to adopt. And as far as employment, it doesn't matter as long as you have the income to raise a child. In Wa, age is not an issue as long as you can raise the child in a healthy environment. I wish you all the best! We are adopting through foster care as well.
Good luck!

Age won't be an issue, but in our state you'll be asked for a backup person incase of death. The state doesn't want to adopt out children only to have them return to the system. DH & I had to have this backup person and we're young, 27 & 31. But I know older people who have adopted and the backup erson was stressed even more so.
A letter from your doctor stating that you're healthy is also required as part of the homestudy. It's not a big deal at all.
And retirement isn't an issue, as long as you can show you have money to support the child. I know of two retired adoptive parents.
