I am very new to this and just had a question. My husband is AD AF and I'm just wondering what states would be involved. We are thinking of adopting from IL which is our home state. He is stationed in ID, but we aren't residents so I'm not sure what state laws we would have to deal with. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I believe that both states would have to be involved. Meaning whatever state you reside in, if that is different from where the child is born at, both states have to"talk"(okay the adoption), so you can leave my state, to then enter where you reside. But of course you should check with your social worker, or your agency since ,or you can contact an adoption attorney. They will know state laws. Your base may be able to help you too. Our base is small, so don't have the the proper help they can give us.
Good luck!

I know that when we adopted overseas....(dh was AD AF too)......we had to abide not only by that particular country's laws, but also by Illinois laws too (we were residents of IL at the time). So, even though we lived somewhere else, we still had to satisfy the rules of both places. I suspect things are still that way now.....
Sincerely,
Linny
We are retired AD/USMC and perhaps someone who is currently in your situation or has been will reply.
But.. your base legal should have all the info on that and can handle the process with legal paperwork.
Check the AF website.. HQ one, perhaps they have something there that may assist you. The USMC has all that info on there site, Im just guessing that the AF does also..
Good Luck!
