My story:
I am a stepfather. My stepdaughter lives with me and her biological mother (my wife) here in the Memphis area. My daughter has known me as her father for over 4 years now. Up until May of 2004 she had had no contact with her biological father. He had not lifted a finger to see his daughter, pay child support, or take care of her for almost 4 years.
In May of 2003 I entered a petition for adoption thinking it was a noble cause. My wife and I had mountains of evidence showing that the biological father was harmful to McKenzie and clearly did not care about his daughter. As in most cases, the father fought the petition.
In August of 2004 we went before [Edited To Remove a Identifying information for confidentiality purposes.].
Despite that the Guardian Ad Litem's report essentially said the biological father was a poor representation of a father. Despite what the termination of parental rights law in the state of Tennessee says. Despite testimony proving the father had "kidnapped" my daugther for about a month and took her to another state. Despite that my daughter had no recollection of the biological father.
Despite all these things, [Edited To Remove a Identifying information for confidentiality purposes.](the same Judge who campaigned as a activist for family values) ruled against me in court. However, this is not the absurd part. The absurd part is that within almost the same breath, Judge[Edited To Remove a Identifying information for confidentiality purposes.] gave UNSUPERVISED visitation to the biological father THAT DAY at 3 PM. This was within 2 hours of our verdict. We essentially had to leave the court house, go get my daughter out of school early, and try to explain to her within half an hour about why she was having to spend the next 4 hours every day for the rest of the week with complete and total strangers.
[Edited To Remove a Identifying information for confidentiality purposes.]refused to be even the slightest bit reasonable. He treated my child like property (all too often the courts do this).
I write this to anyone who will listen. [Edited To Remove a Identifying information for confidentiality purposes.]has shown that he does not care about what happens mentally to my child. He does not care what the law states.
Please do not vote for him again.
