I am an adoptee from RI and I found my birthmother. There are no public records available to you although RI does have a passive registry. This basically allows you to register with the court, pay a fee and pray that your birthmother does the same.
I did not go this route. I wrote to the adoption agency and asked for all non-identifying information they could give me. I was provided with a letter with my birthmother's age, hair color, eye color, heritage and some medical information. I did locate her.
If you would like help, I'd be happy to help you.
Just let me know.
Best of luck in your search.

Hi,
Could you please please help me? I just started looking for my daughter who was born October 3, 1987. I have an appointment with Childrens Friend and Service because they were the adoption agency I went to when I was 17. I keep hearing horror stories about how they dont want to give information out. The woman from there told me to write a letter to my daughter...I started doing that and am having a very hard time doing that but I know I can do it.
There's also something else. I have some genetic information that is EXTREMELY important for me to give to her, especially if she is going to be starting a family of her own. Most importantly, I want to meet her. Can you offer any advice?
