One can call it a coincidence, but I choose to believe in the power of Prayer. My husband and I turned in our pre-application for a domestic adoption through Catholic Charities almost 9 months ago. At the time, I figured everything would just start happening for us. As more and more time went by, I got a little down. Right around Easter (which I love), I started really praying for a child. I ordered six St. Gerard Holy Cards to pass out to close family and a few friends, and asked them to start praying for us as well. About three days later, I received a phone call from Catholic Charities telling me that we have moved into the Formal Application phase. We will now be in a group of ten, and we finally get to start doing the good stuff. I don't know if I was more in shock over the excitement of the phone call, or the fact that I had asked for help and seemed to have been heard. Life is funny. Thank you to everyone who mentioned St. Gerard. I truly feel like he is going to guide me through this.

Could you please post or PM me this prayer. My husband and I are wanting to adopt children internationally as with all adoptions there seems to always be a set back or something trying to get in the way. We need family support (which we do not have) and a lawyer to help us with the legal end here. We are planning to go with an independant lawyer in Rep. of Panama and nobody here (in AL) seems to be able/willing to help. :( If you would like you could say a prayer for us and I will definately keep you in my prayers.
Thank you!
ccmccoy, I am going to pm you the prayer. It's a little long to post on here. What I love about this Saint, who is the Patron Saint of Expectant Mothers, is I feel like I am also praying for the birthmom of my child. Whoever and wherever she may be. I would love to say a prayer for you and your husband. You can never have too many people praying for you.
Thank you!
We have had a couple different adoption situations come our way,but unfortunately no adoption.I started praying to St. Jude and within a couple months we found out another adoption situation. This situation was a true miracle.Through friends of my mom's --a birthmom was desperately looking for a good family for her baby. This birthmom gave her phone number to her friend who in turned gave the number to my mom.I will never forget the day my mom called me to tell me the birthmom actually wanted to talk to us! I cried so much on the phone...because i just could not believe it.This birthmom was exactly what we had dreamed of....she only wanted the best for her baby. She was planned for an abortion and cried she could not do it.She left the clinic and into her friends arms she cried "if only i knew of a good family".That is when she heard about us.We have waited years to adopt. We are praying all the time that all works with this adoption. This is an at risk adoption the birthmom is willing to sign the papers. However there are 2 possible birthdads-one who is willing to sign.We have to wait until the birth of the baby. Then we will find out if this other guy will sign off...Right now we are focusing in on the true miracle..just the thought of us being brought together. The birthmom is so wonderful and we are truely friends.Everyday we pray this little miracle will be ours...We have faith in God that this will be our baby.We know the true meaning of the power of prayer!!!
In May of 2000 we had been waiting 2.5 years for a child through CC and had 2 painful failed matches during that time. Our parish had recently started a "prayer book" where one could write prayers that were read at Mass. I decided to write "praying for a sucessful adoption" in the book on Mother's day weekend. When the prayer was read during Mass, our son's biograndmother heard the petition. At that time his birthmother was struggling to find the right family for him. After Mass she contacted one of the priests and found out about our desire to adopt. We brought our son home 2 weeks later!!!
TAlk about DIRECT answer to prayer!!! To this day I still marvel at God's hand in connecting us with DS birthfamily. So many days I thought prayer was not helping us at all. Now I feel bad about my lack of faith.
I will keep everyone in my prayers. We always pray to St. Joseph, the adoptive father of Jesus. He NEVER fails!!! :)

I'd been feeling frustrated as we know we're in for a long wait for a referral. I'd been praying for patience and for our birthmother. Easter Sunday our plan was to get to mass early, knowing the church would be packed. Of course we ended up getting there 15 minutes before mass. After scouring the church, we found the only 2 empty seats in the building--in between a very pregnant woman and her family and a couple with two beautiful adopted daughters from China. Not only is someone hearing our prayers, but He has a sense of humor. My prayers are with all of you who are waiting too.Nicole
