Hi all, I'm a mum of a beautiful "adopted" baby Boy and I'm really pleased to have found a site that has a link to New Zealand and Australia. There is really not a lot out there for people looking to a adopt I note. if anyone has any unanswered questions, want help with what to consider putting in their profiles, want to discuss IVF (which I've done once and failed - though I have friends that have been successful) or just want to tell me how they are getting on! Please flick me a line, I'd love to hear how you are getting on! I definitely don't have all the answers, but I'd love to hear your story and how you are getting on. Drop me a line! Richie68

Hi Cakegirl - Welcome on board! Very exciting to see that you were on today! Fingers crossed that it all goes well for you and wonderful that you know you have the strength to raise a child yourself. We had a lovely lady in our adoption course (if you international adoption you still have to do the domestic course as well) that was single and adopting internationally. I heard a few months after the course that she had successfully adopted a toddler (I think) from Russia and they were setting in fine. I'm interested to know how long the process for international takes these days (in Australia and NZ) - I've heard it can take a couple of years - though I don't remember getting those statistics when we looked at it. Good luck and let us know how you get on Richie68
The length of time to complete an intercountry adoption in Australia varies greatly, depending on where you live (e.g. Qld is not currently accepting new applications while the ACT completes the application to file overseas process in under a year), which country you adopt from, and what age child you want to adopt. For example, if you lived in the ACT and wanted to adopt a baby from Korea (assuming you were accepted in Korea's annual quota) you would likely complete the process in around 1.5 to 2 years, while it would take at least a year longer to adopt a 2 year old from Thailand.
So very rough ballpark figures would be an average of 2 to 3.5 years from application to arrival home with a child. Each of our children's adoptions (we have 8 children: 2 daughters born to us and 5 sons and a daughter adopted from Korea, Taiwan and India) took 3 to 3.5 years from start to arrival of our child. Sometimes the hold up was in Oz, and sometimes it was overseas.
