Hi I need info on how to adopt my two sons. There "Bio" left them with us one weekend in August of 2000, and has never been back since, not a phone call, not a nothing. She has 4 "Bio" children that she has nothing to do with. We reported it to the ploice that she never showed up. And now here it is 5 years later, and I want them to be adopted by me. Any help would be great, In Oregon.

Hi. We recently filed our own stepparent adoption in Oregon--Multnomah County. Ck out this site for links to the Oregon statutes http://landru.leg.state.or.us/ors/109.html
and this link to the DHS site, ck independent adoptions http://www.dhs.state.or.us/children/adoption/indadoptions/forms.html
They were pretty helpful to me. This will give you an idea of the tedious process of stepparent adoption and what hoops will need to be jumped. It is a pretty extensive process of getting a parent's rights terminated especially on grounds of neglect or abandonment and I'd recommend hiring an attorney if that is the road you choose. Best be behind someone who knows what they're doing. . .if she signs a consent then it might be possible for you to draft your own documents. Let us know how this goes! Take care--Rebecca.

We are in the same boat. Almost five yrs ago during a custody hearing my ex waived all parenting time and even told the judge that my husband could adopt. Stupid me, we did not jump @ the chance then. Now we are going for the adoption on grounds of abandonment. Bio dad has not seen son since Jan 01 when son was removed from biodads home by CPS for abuse, no cards, no letters, no telephone calls. I have worked for the same comp. B-4 the divorce so he knows where to get me if he wanted to. I know he is in town but where ??? We see him in the store and he turns away. About 1 yr. after custody hearing I tired to change my sons last name, bio dad contested but still did not ask to see him. We have hired an attorney but we think bio dad will contest. He pays child support, but is behined, never pays out of the goodness of heart. Skips to a new job after child support catches up to him. My husband and I have been together since we married in 2000. Gosh he loves my son, one would never guess that he is a step parent. Lawyer filed the paperwork for us, now we wait for a reply. Did you know that you can apply for a waiver of the homestudy?? Even if you dont get it waived you can apply to have the fee waived or reduced if you can provided proof of income. Its about $1500 for homestudy and post placement report. Youve got hurdles to cross, dont give up hope and be persistant. Hopefully we will all come thru this with our brains intact. I got discouraged alot but my husband helped me thru it. It will all be worth it in the end. If you want to talk at all you can write at ivoryfox76@peoplepc.com. Good Luck!!!!
