A friend of mine adopted a 35 year old woman at the request of his dying wife. They had raised the woman from about age 7, but never adopted her. When the wife was dying from cancer the 35 year old press the dying wife to adopt her. My friend said that she had contacted a lawyer and had all of the papers drawn up, his wife signed and wanted him to sign, so he did, although he really didn't want to. How can he undo this? The woman's first name is the same as the dead wife's and it has become increasingly obvious, why she wanted to be adopted and this late date. She is also married and has 3 children, 8 to 15 years old.
He should consult a lawyer, but legally he is her father and unless he can find another father to adopt her, as far as I know, there is nothing he can do. She is entitled to all inheritance rights as any other "born to" child.
