Hi there! I did notice that this board doesn't seem to have many visitors, but I would really appreciate it if you could share information with us! My email address is milenka@gmail.com and our adoption site is www.milenka.com/adoption.
In a nutshell, we've been infertile for nearly 6 years and have been ready to adopt for 5 years. Due to financial circumstances (I'm a homemaker and don't contribute to the budget) we have been unable to come up with the $15-20k that seems to be the going rate around here. We got news last week that we may be able to borrow some money to fund an adoption, but we aren't certain if that will pan out. If we get good news tomorrow, then we hope to begin our homestudy as soon as possible!
So, please, will you share with us your experiences with Michigan agencies? We are looking for an open adoption of an African American or biracial infant.
We cannot work with Bethany, as they won't work with non-Christian families for infant adoptions, but our experiences speaking with them have been pleasant. We've spoken with Adoption Associates as well, but their fees may hinder our working with them. Is $15k plus birth mother expenses a reasonable rate? If it is, then perhaps we'll be waiting longer than we thought, unfortunately. The last agency we've spoken with is Swartz Adoption Attorneys, and we've been waiting to hear back from them regarding their fees and placement numbers.
We're located in Mt. Pleasant, and our schedules don't allow us to travel to the Detroit area for meetings. We haven't hardly found any agencies near us, so we're feeling at a bit of a loss right now. We look forward to hearing from you all soon! Thanks again! :D
