I was just wondering if anyone has any information about Georgia reopening to international adoption. I heard something about this today, but I'm not sure how true it is.
Georgia has not been closed.
It has been EXTREMELY SLOW. To the point where _agencies_ are closed to applicants who want to adopt from Georgia.
Reaching Out Through International Adoption has some articles on their web site that are informative.
Carolina adoption Services has one web page that is up-to-date (the news area) and pages that reflect the pre-2003 state-of-affairs.
I believe that about 5 adoptions have been completed in 2005. Many of them have been families who were in process in 2003. A few are adoptions that began in late 2004.
Georgia is now an ORPHANAGE adoption country (no longer private infant adoptions). The current law specifies that children must be on the registry 6 months before they can be adopted by foreigners. There is legislation (that is going no-where yet) to change that to 3 months.
I called and talked to several adoption agencies this weekend to try to get a handle on the Georgia situation so this information is up-to-date as of Friday the 9th of June.

This is a late response but I just discovered this message board. I have had a dossier in Georgia since May of 2004. There has been no progress despite many promises that things would get moving soon. We have swtiched to Russia.
