When i was little my mother and i had a song that was "ours" called Baby Mine. Its in the cartoon Dumbo and also on the Beaches soundtrack. In one of my letters to the adoptive parents, I mentioned this, so they asked me if I wanted to have a song like that with this baby. I couldnt think of one for awhile that said how i felt you know? I didnt want it to be really mushy or fake. I chose "In My LIfe" by the Beatles here are the words There are places I'll rememberAll my life though some have changedSome forever not for betterSome have gone and some remainAll these places have their momentsWith lovers and friends I still can recallSome are dead and some are livingIn my life I've loved them allBut of all these friends and loversThere is no one compares with youAnd these memories lose their meaningWhen I think of love as something newThough I know I'll never lose affectionFor people and things that went beforeI know I'll often stop and think about themIn my life I love you moreThough I know I'll never lose affectionFor people and things that went beforeI know I'll often stop and think about themIn my life I love you moreIn my life I love you more I have been a beatles fan since i was about 12 (i am 25 now). I was just wondering other opinions, if you think this baby will understand how i feel when she is older? Its exactly how i think i will feel. I am due september 3rd 2005 Annie

I think it's wonderful. And I bet they she will. Music communicates in ways words don't quite do it. I bet your baby's paparents 'get' this connection too.
This will always be a 'special' song between the two of you. When she's older, you can explain why you chose it and what it means to you. Or, if you're not planning continued contact, you can write a letter talking about why you picked this song and how it communicates what you feel for her to open when she's older.
My 2 cents.

Lovely words Annie, just lovely.....
BTW, I absolutely love "Baby Mine" as well....when my girls were little and we watched Dumbo I have to confess, a tear used to run down my cheek....still does...
That song touched me....maybe more so because I am an adoptee?? Mmmmm....who knows, I do think it would touch most people.
I am not familiar to the music that accompanies the Beatle song "In My Life" but I do have their greatest hits cd at home....might have a listen to it this evening :)
I am so glad to hear that I'm not the only cheesy one! I have had a song picked out for my first child since I was 21 years old. I had no idea that one day I'd be waiting to adopt a child. (I am now 30) The song is "Blessed" by Elton John. Elton John - Blessed Lyrics Hey you, you're a child in my headYou haven't walked yetYour first words have yet to be saidBut I swear you'll be blessedI know you're still just a dreamyour eyes might be greenOr the bluest that I've ever seenAnyway you'll be blessedAnd you, you'll be blessedYou'll have the bestI promise you thatI'll pick a star from the skyPull your name from a hatI promise you that, promise you that, promise you thatYou'll be blessedI need you before I'm too oldTo have and to holdTo walk with you and watch you growAnd know that you're blessed******It is spooky how well it goes with how I am feeling now as an adoptive mom-to-be. Nicci Annie: I love the song you have picked out for your child. It's perfect!
All our children have thier own special song. I sing it to them when they go to sleep, are cranky, sick, whatever. I have sang it to them since day one & now when i start to sing it, it calms them down.
They like that it is THEIR special song. We also sing the "Birth Mother's Song" by Michael McLean.
We are a CC family & our adopted children are AA. Our 5 year old DD song is from Tarzan, "You'll Be In My Heart" Our 2 almost 3 year old DD song is by Savage Garden, I Knew I Loved You" & our almost 2 year old DS is called "Beautiful" by All 4 One.
His is hard to find so I printed the lyrics here:
From the moment I saw you
From the moment I looked into your eyes
There was something about you
I knew, Iknew
That you were once in a lifetime
A treasure near impossible to find
I know how lucky I am
To have you
And I've seen rainbows that
Can take your breath away
The beauty of a setting sun
On any given day
And when it comes to shooting stars
I have seen a few
But I've never seen
Anything, as beautiful as you
I can't believe that I have you
I can't believe that you're here in my arms
I have waited a lifetime
For you, for you
And I've dreamed about you
Pictured in my mind
What I might see
But I never imagined
Just how beautiful you'd be.
Chours
Special songs are the GREATEST for children, makes them feel more special. :)
GREAT idea
