Hi all,
My husband and I are interested in adopting and are trying to find out the general number of years of marriage that Tennessee requires before adopting a child. We have been married over a year, dated four years before that, and would love to start our family through adoption. I read that generally the requirement nationally is three years and I realize that the requirements may vary but I just wanted some guidence since we have been very unsuccessful researching online.
Any help/response would be great!
Thanks!
J
I live in Nashville, TN. It depends, are you doing international or domestic? Tn is weird about the laws. Very conservative here!lol! Hard to remember, b/c we have been married for ten years. Does not really matter how long you and your DH have dated, just that you have been married for over 1 year. I think you are fine to adopt.

I live in Nashville, too. I found that Agencies have a preference of two years, but it's not a law, as single parents can adopt. Knowing how long it takes to get the home study done, dear birthmother letters, reading, and generally getting in the system, you should start now. There are some agencies that are more open than others. PM me if you want any middle TN info..
Enjoy the journey :)
