What is the Louisiana Adoption Registry?
The Louisiana Adoption Registry is a registry established by the Department of Social Services to facilitate voluntary contact between adult adoptees, their birth parents and/or siblings.
Who may register?
You may register if you are over 18 and your adoption, your childs or your siblingҒs adoption was legally finalized in the State of Louisiana.
How do I get on the registry?
Contact the registry at (225) 342-9922 or 1-800-259-2456 and request a Voluntary Registry packet which will provide all the information necessary for registration. The process includes completion of an affidavit and a $25.00 fee. There is also a counseling requirement that must be met prior to voluntary release of any identifying information, but this is not required in order to register.
Where do I write?
Should you prefer to write us, send your letter to:
The Louisiana Voluntary Adoption Registry
Post Office Box 3318
Baton Rouge, LA 70821
And indicate whether you are an adoptee, birth parent or sibling and include your name, mailing address, and phone number. We will send you a registry packet or call you if we have questions.
If you have further questions, you may call the Registry at (225)-342-9922 or 1-800-259-2456.
Does anyone know how long it takes to get a reply back after you mailed in your form? Are you contacted if there's no match? Were there any mail/post office delays after Hurricane Katrina? I'm getting anxious!

It's probably taking a bit longer than usual. It was taking about 6 weeks. But things are crazy because of Katrina and I think the lady that does all that is also trying to locate missing foster kids from Katrina!
