I have been having problems with my signature. It keeps telling me that my signature cannot be longer than 500 characters. I have reduced it down to about 50 and it took it. I would really like to be able to do my whole timeline. Could someone check on my account???
Thank you
Sandra

Anything like color, font etc count as characters. If you reduce the special features of your timeline you should be able to make it much longer than it is.

I tried it with the default font and no color or anything and it still wouldn't take many words.
well thats the total extent of my tech advice and expertise :)
lol Brandy is the true expert so I am sure she will come up with a BRILLIANT answer for you :)

Ok
First, if you are going to use the same font/color for your entire siggy, then you only have to put the color tag and font tag at the front and the end of the entire sig, not at the beginning of each sentence.
Below is your signature (unchanged from above) with 481 characters of codeӔ removedcode also counts as œcharacters when creating a signature.
Carlos DOB 3/1 DOR 3/23
DNA Authorization 6/2
FC appt 6/16
DNA is done waiting on a MATCH

Below is the corrected codeԅremove the spaces between the code (meaning there should be NO spaces between the [ ]s (with the exception of the word Comic Sans MS)
[ font = Comic Sans MS ][ size = 2 ]Carlos DOB 3/1 DOR 3/23
DNA Authorization 6/2
FC appt 6/16
DNA is done waiting on a MATCH
[ / size ][ / font ]
Let me know if you have questions.

Also, black is the default color of font on the forums, so if you are using black, you don't have to code that.
ALSO, if you choose a line of color, example you want Carlos's first line to be blue...just code that one line in color, close the code and if you want the rest of the siggy to be black, you don't have to recode it back.
Below is the example
Carlos DOB 3/1 DOR 3/23
DNA Authorization 6/2
FC appt 6/16
DNA is done waiting on a MATCH

[ font = Comic Sans MS ][ size = 2 ] [ color = blue ] Carlos DOB 3/1 DOR 3/23 [ / color]
DNA Authorization 6/2
FC appt 6/16
DNA is done waiting on a MATCH
[ / size ][ / font ]
Ah! Brandy, I didn't even see you there! I just edited all the code out of geekster's signature.
Geekster (and many, many others) If you use the little pop up do add color, font, size and all that fun stuff, it will add tags like Brandy described above for every single item. That means every time you tell it to do something extra, it will add a start and an end tag. Be conscientious of where your color is stopping and starting... if you want the whole thing to be black, don't specify a color, but if you want the whole thing the same color (or font or size), make sure the color tags are only at the very beginning and the very end. It took me a looong time to get the hang of it, but now it's usually easier to add the tags by myself.

I know, I know, I'll write my name on the chalkboard for cheating ;)
I started a thread a long time back for those interested in learning to code by hand, but it just didn't pick up.
I'm having the same problem. How do I view the code in my signature so I can edit out the extra tags? When I go to "edit signature" in the control panel it just shows my signature in it's finished form, I don't see all of the coding.

Celtia,
Its because of the way you're viewing the forums. When you click on your UserCP you can select options and under options, change the way you view the forums (just long enough to do your siggy) then - once you've made your siggy change, go back and change it again. I know its a pain and I don't know WHY it does this (I am working on finding out) but that is the only way I've been able to get around the extra tag problem using that setting.
