Today is two years since we were introduced to the Ukraine program with our agency. Today, it has been 447 days since our original dossier was submitted to the NAC. It is also 103 days since our second dossier was submitted to the NAC. Today, we finally recieved our registration from the NAC asking us to choose a date in early 2006.
We will need to update our medical before we go and perhaps do a third dossier if we do not get a date before March 2006.
If anyone has waited this long for word from the NAC, please share your story. You may also wish to read our posts over the past year illustrating the delays & problems we experienced. Otherwise, a word of caution for those early in this process, that the waiting can be very, very long indeed.
Please share with us why so long an adoption process? The answers may save another family from making the same mistakes and thus having a similar timeline.
Why almost a year between your original dossier submission (June/July 2004) and the second dossier (May/June 2005) being submitted (344 days)?
Were there also problems with the 2nd dossier? 3.3 months is about twice as long as most people are waiting for their registration, but not unheard of. Also, why 3 months between getting the 2nd dossier ready and submitting it (I am assuming it was ready in 3/05 since you imply it mostly expires in 3/06).
Given your original dossier submission in mid 2004, have you already re-done your USCIS FBI fingerprints which are probably about to expire now? Also, doesn't look like you will be traveling by the time the I-171 will expire (Dec05/Jan 2006). Have you checked out how long it will take to complete a new I-600A?
I have heard of some families who waited 4-6 months for their registrations. Also of others who thought they were waiting for registration only to find they were waiting for their translator to submit the dossier.
I find it disheartening that when families are starting out on the road to adoption all anyone wants to tell them about are the wonderful, happy stories. It can be difficult for them to find the hard, frustrating stories that can better prepare them for what may lie ahead.
Thanks for sharing your story with those coming along. It is appreciated.

I have followed your posts and I know you've had a long, hard battle. We signed with our agency last July and finally got an NAC registration date on July 25 this year. However, we knew we would be a longer time in the process than with our previous adoption in 2001 because we would like a girl this time and our agency has a long client list. It did not help that one of their programs (Belarus) closed last year. We waited to start paperwork until the beginning of this year and submitted our dossier in June. We were also told to request a date in 2006.
At least your dossier has been accepted now, so that is a major step forward. In the end, it's worth hanging in there. All these trials and tribulations will seem trivial once you get your child home.
Good Luck

hjdeth1 you mention "mistakes" made. My wife and I signed on to an agency to provide us with guidence and expertise. We have done everything asked of us including redoing forms which the NAC said had changed. We were very proactive and understood this was our adoption, not the agency's. I suggested that all read our previous posts of the past year. The biggest "mistake" was not being on top of expiring documents on the first dossier.
Perhaps, there are others reasons the NAC did not respond to us before or maybe not. We will probably never know.
I am aware of the stories on this forum making the process seem like a breeze. I are not here to be defend our actions but to share our experiences so readers are aware of what can happen.
We wish all good luck.
