Independent adoption

Our agency is also raising their fees again, this will be the third time since we started our adoption. We now have to take some money in Euros as the exchange rate is so bad, we have to put money in escrow to ensure that we complete all the post-adoption requirements and we are now going to have to pay all our in country accommodation etc whereas previously it was included in our foreign country fee.However, we have been in process for over a year already, have an NAC registration date and would lose too much at this point to change agencies or go independently. I still think you have a better chance at getting a younger, healthier child with an agency than trying to go it alone and there have been too many scary stories of people returning without children recently for us to try to go the independent route. Unfortunately agencies know they have what we want and consequently they hold the upper hand in this whole process.
